Top Movie Of The Week Box Office! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is merely two movies long, but what movies! Big oil company propaganda having a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one from the most lyrical American films available. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry from the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of the Cajun boy with his fantastic family, living for the bayous in such a way of life that we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land towards the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything just like it was, clean and unspoiled other than the family has a little more money. (Yes, it had been funded with the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating over the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't also have a cell phone to get in touch with case he gets struggling. There is not much story, just a celebration (in such stunning white and black photography that you may well wonder exactly what the big deal is around color) of your way of life that is no longer with us.

A monochrome silent film that ends with a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, exactly what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have 3 good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc with this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was available. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died believing that the last copy ended up destroyed. In a amount of weirdness that sounds a lot more like a movie than the truth, an almost complete print is discovered in 1981 in a very janitor's closet of the Norwegian mental institution.
